HELLO THIGHS.
My thighs have always been my biggest body hang up – psychologically and physically. I have always had two great big meaty blocks at the top of my legs that I despised. The only time I really liked my thighs was when they were restrained in tights under a floaty dress that disguised what I believed to be the most unattractive grotesque part of my body. As a teenager I lusted after images of Alexa Chung’s long wispy legs with nobly knees and the elusive gap that all women are supposed to strive for, but in hindsight it’s not that great and it wasn’t what I wanted. I was surrounded by the press who spoke of Beyoncé and commended her on ‘curvy’ thighs, but those muscle toned legs she sports did not represent what I was hiding under my mass of material. Her thighs are what my dreams are made of. I would angst over other people’s legs, wanting to hide my own, doing squats and constantly dieting – then I realised that life is TOO short!
I now LIKE my thighs. There are times when I wish they weren’t so chunky – I am going to have those moments in the changing rooms when I catch a glimpse of myself and want to die but these are always going to be my thighs and life is too short to worry about the size of them. At the moment I feel pretty fatabulous about my legs.
SO instead of hiding my legs behind tights I am going out in skirts with bare legs, instead of not buying that dress I love because its short I am going to embrace the hem line and rather than worry about how big they are gonna look in a pair of jeans I am going to wear my size 22’s with pride.

It’s been a while since I have blogged on here but I am coming back with some great news! I have battled over 1000’s plus size ladies to the become one of 30 finalists to fight for the title of MISS PLUS SIZE INTERNATIONAL 2013 (title formally known as Miss BBW International)
Miss Plus Size International is a pageant exclusively reserved for women who a size 18+ and promotes body beautiful confidence for us ladies with a little junk in the trunk!
When I entered the competition I never expected to get to the final 200 let alone be one of the 30 finalists who get to strut their stuff in the final! The finals this year are being held in the The Grand Connaught Rooms (The Brits and Glamour Awards have been held here) and we are collecting money for MacMillan Cancer Support, a fantastic charity and one close to my own heart!
My next stage is a “boot camp” where we have pageant training, team building and hopefully lots of laughs. I watched the film DROP DEAD GORGEOUS the other evening and secretly hope that Pageant training involves dancing with step ladders, unlikely, but hey a girl can wish ;).
As well as the pageant the team also host BIG GIRLS PARADISE club nights, this is a touring nightclub that celebrates body acceptance and curves. I went to the club on February 9th with my best friend Shelley and our men. It was a fantastic night with lots of great tunes, dancing and rose wine! Keep an eye out for the touring club nights, they aren’t exclusively for Plus Size women, anyone can go along for dancing, drinks and frolics!
So my journey has just begun, I’ve been a finalist for a week now and it’s only starting to become real to me. I would love it if you could follow my facebook fan page here:

Mr Stables and I went Christmas shopping in Farnham today. My beautiful husband took me for a Christmas hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows at Costa Coffee and we pondered around the shops buying presents for our loved ones.
Its cold today so I wore my beloved Julian McDonald Russian hat, I brought it from Debenhams in September for my honeymoon in Edinburgh and wear it nearly everyday. I went for a vintage Jaeger red jumper and my worn-to-often navy blue skirt from Primark. My red coat is from Marks & Spencer and my brogues are £5.00 bargains from New Look! My outfit today was all about comfort and keeping warm but I felt gorgeous. As its very nearly Christmas I decided to crack out my red lipstick for the festive period.

My lack of blogging recently is disgusting. I’ve had a cold and consequently felt sorry for myself and not really done very much. This morning I was having a nose around the internet and came across this article that I want to share.

I love this outfit, pencil skirts and jumpers are my favourite combination for the winter months and I wear a variation of this outfit lots.

I love this outfit, mainly because its so comfortable and I can do anything in it! I hate wearing clothes that make me feel restricted or paranoid that I’m going to flash my bum. Being a plus size girl I like outfits that make the most of my curves and hide my bumpy bits so this ticks all the boxes -even if I do feel a little like a milk maid!
Today I am wearing a reproduction 1950’s dress that I had made for me last year. Me and my hubby Mr Stables used to run a vintage shop in Scarborough and this is a dress made by a fabulous seamstress we used to make in.
I love the gorgeous dark blue paisley print of this fabric, I wear this dress at least once a week and always get compliments. Do you love it?
I’ve not blogged in so long I have almost forgotten how. So I am going to start myself again with an outfit of the day challenge.
Things to keep in mind with my OOTD posts – at the moment I wear a size 18/20 but am currently on a healthy eating plan so hopefully my dress size will be dropping as well – love an excuse to go shopping! I love Vintage clothing and my style is heavily influenced by bygone eras. Lastly, I buy pretty much NOTHING new, I love a good bargain and can’t remember when I brought something new (actually I do, it was a Betty Jackson dress that I brought in Debenhams sale & have worn at least 10 times since) – most of my clothes are from charity shops, bootsales and eBay with a rarity from the highstreet.

I hate to brag, but I had a fabulous weekend.
I spent the saturday daytime scavenging through the local charity shops with my mum. We were on a serious buying spree and I ended up spending £50.00 on 8 second hand dresses, three of them vintage and the others fab makes.
I love Sundays, I especially love Sundays when my Scott is off work and we get to go on mini adventures. Last weekend we decided to go to the beach with Scott’s parents, his lovely sister and her fiance. Scott’s parents took us all to West Wittering, I have never been there before so it was quite a Sunday outing for me. The weather looked dodgy in the morning so I decided to wear jeans and a gypsy blouse – I very rarely wear jeans and trust me to choose them on the day that the weather turns out to be superb. I wear my dresses in the rain and snow, but the day we actually have warm sunshine I wear jeans…irritating and typical!
We had an early start so I couldn’t really be bothered to style my hair properly, I thought a quick quiff and large flower would rockabilly my outfit enough for me. I love the gingham blouse I wore, I brought it from a jumble sale last summer, it has no label and is a little tatty around the hems so I am guessing it is homemade – which makes me love it more! My little black cardigan was a find at the bootsale last Sunday, it is cashmere with different coloured small roses dotted all over it, it is stunning and only cost me £1.50 – I was chuffed when i found it, I have only worn it three times and I have had compliments on it each time.
Wittering is a fabulous little place. At first I was horrified by the £7.50 per car entrance fee but the toilets are nice and clean – for that, I would be £15.00 per car! When you go on an outing with the Stables clan, you do it properly, and I was delighted when Scott’s dad started pulling out gazebos, deck chairs, blankets, barbeques, gas stoves, kettles, a china tea set and every type of meat and salad you could think of. I sat on the beach in the sun, drinking beer and eating too much food – my ideal day!

I felt very chilled out, just what I needed after a hectic week at work, and it was made all the more marvellous by my OH. He wore a vintage coffee coloured Fred Perry with his 1970’s aviators and dark jeans – he looked like a retro seventies detective! He is so handsome, I am a very lucky girl and love him very much.
I love my second family, and I cannot wait to be Mrs Stables. I hope you all had fabulous weekends, and its Thursday now, so we all have the bank holiday very close (wahoo)!!
Psssst. Me and Scott got the gorgeous flat that I spoke about in my last post! I will write and put up pictures when we move in!
